Q & A About Our Services

General Facts about Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?
Fortunately, the US government has given us a definition that is very useful.  According to the US government, hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor of the mind (that part that compares new information with old information already stored in the subconscious mind) and acceptance of acceptable selective thinking.  Hypnosis allows us to bypass this critical factor, so that new ideas and thinking can go right into the inner mind and affect our limiting beliefs and our habits so we can make positive changes right away.

Do you sleep when you are in Hypnosis?
No.  You’ll be awake and aware. Hypnosis isn’t sleep, but your hypnotist may use the word sleep.  It’s just a fast way of saying go deeply relaxed quickly.  Please note: Even if your hypnotist says the word sleep, don’t go to sleep or she will have to wake you up and start the session again.

Do you black out or pass out or become unconscious when hypnotized?
No.  You will hear everything the hypnotist says and you’ll remember everything.  We want you to remember because your changes will come from insight you get during the sessions.  You will be conscious, responsive and sometimes will even have a conversation with the hypnotist during your sessions.

What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis isn’t a feeling. It is a state of mind. Here is one example: Have you ever known something, but then suddenly you got a deeper understanding of it than ever before? Most people call that a light bulb going off in their mind moment. That’s how it is when you are in hypnosis. You can have access to information that you are not aware of consciously on a daily basis. This information will be used to help you to make positive change. Other than that you will probably feel relaxed (relaxation isn’t necessary however) since we often focus on relaxing as a way to bypass the critical factor.

Can you get stuck in Hypnosis?
No one has ever been stuck in hypnosis.  Hypnotists have many clients and need to emerge you after the session so the next client can come in.  You may feel very relaxed however, and want to enjoy that for a few minutes before emerging.

Is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is naturally occurring in all human beings.  You won’t believe how many times you or your friends or family have been in hypnosis and didn’t know it.  Here’s just ONE example; recently a colleague of mine couldn’t see her keys right on her desk in front of her even though she was looking right at them.  She was experiencing a negative hallucination and was in profound somnambulism, a normal state we all go into sometimes and the deepest state of hypnosis there is.

Also, once again, if hypnosis were not safe you would hear news stories about the terrible things that hypnosis does or is doing to people.  No one has ever been harmed by going into the hypnotic state.  Having said that, there are unscrupulous people in every profession so make sure you research your hypnotist before booking your sessions.

In addition, hypnosis has been accepted by the American Medical Association since 1958 and is documented as being useful in all sorts of issues such as helping children control epileptic seizures, overcoming infertility, IBS, controlling or eliminating pain and skin ailments, finding the cause of depression, anxiety and bad habits and the list goes on and on.  Please go to the website for the National Center for Health Statistics and search “Hypnosis Research” for more information.

Why don’t more doctors tell patients about hypnosis?
Most doctors just don’t think about it because their training is not in this area, but more and more are embracing the idea and we get referrals from medical doctors and mental health professionals all the time.

How do you go into hypnosis?
Two ways. 1) Automatically and naturally: It is natural for human beings to go in and out of light, medium and deep hypnosis. Hypnosis just seems to happen spontaneously.  2) A hypnotist guides you there:  Hypnotists have specific techniques for hypnotic inductions to help you achieve the deepest levels with ease.  A good hypnotist can get you into the hypnotic state in 4 seconds to 4 minutes.

Can anyone be hypnotized?
It used to be believed that only 20% of the population could be hypnotized.  We have since discovered that those numbers are due to lack of technique training of the hypnotist. When you do your sessions all you have to do is follow very easy instructions and be of normal intelligence and you’ll go right into a level of hypnosis to do all the work necessary to get the changes you want.

Can the hypnotist make me do something I don’t want to do?
No.  You are always in control.  If a hypnotist ever gave you a suggestion that you were morally or ethically apposed to you would emerge from hypnosis immediately.  And if a hypnotist gives you a suggestion that just isn’t one you want, it just won’t have any affect on you.

Is there any way I can mess up the hypnosis
Not really, unless you just don’t follow the instructions given, or you want to prove you can’t be hypnotized for some reason.  (Which is true, no one can help you achieve hypnosis against your will.)  Also, hypnosis isn’t a fragile state, so scratching an itch, coughing or talking when in hypnosis are all perfectly acceptable.  Also, if your mind wanders a bit, don’t worry about it.  The subconscious is always listening.

What can I do to help the hypnotic process?
Basically, just relax and follow the easy instructions and don’t try to be the best hypnotic subject that a hypnotist has ever had.  That just puts unnecessary stress on you.

If your changes are behavioral or habitual (such as weight loss or stop smoking) you will have to also put your effort into making changes, so do that.  Hypnosis is complementary to your effort.

If your problem is emotional (getting over fear or sadness for example) or physical, there is no need to be optimistic or pessimistic.  Just let yourself be neutral and see what happens.  In other words, don’t worry about the session during or after,  or try to figure out how you feel or think about what happened in the session.  Just go on about your life and let the work soak in.  Also, you can show up for your sessions, practice your self hypnosis and do any other homework that may be given.  That’s about it.

How Hypnosis may Help your Health

How does Hypnosis Help with Medical Problems?
The Stress Diathesis Hypothesis: Imagine your body is a chain complete with links. Now imagine that each link represents a different bodily component or part. For instance, one link represents your vascular system, your immune system; others represent blood, nerves, digestive tract, skin, reproductive organs and so on.

Your bodily chain is being pulled (stressed) by stress on each end.  On one end there is the stress from your external environment pulling on your chain.  This includes pressure at work and home.  On the other end of the chain internal stress is pulling on your bodily chain.

Internal stress is a compilation of all the emotions we’ve stuffed or we didn’t resolve over our lives.  We’ve stuffed these feelings (stress, boredom, anger, guilt, loneliness, sadness, frustration, depression etc.) by distracting from them in various ways such as eating too much, smoking, watching TV, and going shopping (anything to stop feeling bad) and so on.  When we stuff our uncomfortable feelings they don’t go away.  They go inside, into the subconscious and they cause internal stress.

As we get older we get more of both kinds of stress (internal and external) because we get more responsibilities (external) as we get older and more emotions go unresolved over time (internal).

So, these two types of stress are causing pressure to the body.  What happens when you get too much pressure, stress or pulling on a chain?  Well, every chain, has a weak link.  For some their weak link is their heart and heart conditions or disease may occur.  For others it may be adult onset diabetes that shows up or IBS, acne, fibromyalgia, infertility, headaches, hypertension, skin conditions, lumps or tumors, cancer or a myriad of other diseases or conditions.

One of the most important components of dealing with a health condition is to relieve as much of this stress on the body as possible.   This is why doctors say things like, “Get bed rest.”, “Take a vacation.”, or “Cut back on your hours at work.”  You see, doctors know that this is stress that you have some control over.  Sometimes, they even send clients to a counselor or a psychologist or a psychiatrist for medication.  This is their attempt at helping you relieve some of your internal stress.

With our hypnosis sessions we help you with both types of stress because first, when you are in hypnosis you can bring up the internal stress, the stress that has every thing to do with your problem.  Once your subconscious helps you by bringing it up we then help you neutralize it through various techniques using your intention, imagination and new thinking.

Once the inside is taken care of and those feelings are resolved, it’s easy to learn a method called “One, Two, Three” for dealing with emotions that come up in your external environment.  We teach all of our clients how to effectively deal with situations that cause stress, anger, guilt, sadness and more.  As a result our clients live happier, more peaceful and satisfying lives where they are healthier and have more peace of mind.

Can Hypnosis Help with my Particular Medical Issue?
When you read about The Stress Diathesis Hypothesis, above, you can see how most medical issues can be helped by our processes.  However, if you would like to call us to talk about your specific problem please feel free.  Our number is972-673-0110.

If you are concerned that your problem may be hard-wired due to genes or DNA you may be right. You may also be encouraged to know that there is fascinating new information available now that show genes and DNA do not control our biology, and that instead, DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell including the energetic messages from our thoughts.  Consider reading, The Biology of Belief, by Bruce Lipton. This ground breaking work in the field of new biology may just change the way you think.

Is There Research Showing That Hypnosis is Useful for my Health Issue?
There may be.  We suggest first going to the website for The National Center for Health Statistics and doing a search on “Hypnosis Research” or on your specific issue and the phrase “hypnosis research”.  Also, check back on this site as we will be posting research soon.

In addition, as you are doing your research, ask your doctor if being less stressed will help you to heal.  Most doctors encourage stress reduction and hypnosis is an excellent means to this.  If you haven’t already, read about The Stress Diathesis Hypothesis, above, to learn how stress helps to cause physical symptoms.

Also if you think you are doomed by your genetic make up.  You may find hope when reading an interesting  book (also mentioned above) called The Biology of Belief:  Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter and Miracles, by Bruch H. Lipton, Ph.D.  This ground breaking book shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology, that instead DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our thoughts.

In addition, we recommend several books for you to consider reading:

  • Love, Medicine, and Miracles, by Dr. Bernie Siegel
  • Healing Back Pain, by Dr. John E Sarno
  • The Mind Body Prescription: Healing the Body, Healing Pain, by Dr John E Sarno
  • Help me to Heal, by Dr. Bernie Siegel
  • Spontaneous Healing of Belief, by Greg Braden
  • The Relaxation Response, by Herbert Benson, M.D.
  • Spontaneous Healing:  How to Discover and Embrace Your Body’s natural Ability to Maintain and Heal Itself, by Dr. Andrew Weil

Does Insurance Pay for Hypnosis Sessions?
We do not bill insurance companies, but you can inquire with your provider and they may reimburse you.

What Qualifications do your Hypnotists Have?
All of our hypnotists are highly trained and are certified by the oldest and largest hypnosis organization in the world, The National Guild of Hypnotists and by Cal Banyan in 5-PATH technique.  Each hypnotist, also, must get continuing education in hypnotic methods.

In addition, we have a registered nurse on staff who is one of our hypnotherapists  and a certified professional hypnosis instructor who sees clients, teaches at a state licensed career school for hypnotism, supervises the work of the hypnotists and makes certain that only the safest, fastest and the most advanced hypnotic techniques are being used.

What is the Difference between a Hypnotist and a Hypnotherapist?
Hypnotists usually have more training and experience in hypnotism than hypnotherapists.  A hypnotherapist’s training and their approach is primarily in their original field of study. There are exceptions to the rule, however. Our hypnotherapist, Denese Boyd, for example, has advanced training in hypnotism, is highly trained in hypnosis and is also a registered nurse.
